Cal Grants is one of the smartest ways to get money for college. For starters, it is money you don't have to pay back. If you are a California resident, meet academic, financial and eligibility requirements and submit two forms by the Cal Grant deadline, you may receive a Cal Grant!
You must apply by March 2 to maximize your opportunity to receive an award.
The Basics on How to Apply
If you are an incoming Freshmen/ Transfer Student you will need to submit the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) between January 1 and March 2, and submit a Cal Grant GPA Verification form before the March 2nd deadline. This form can be found by clicking here.
To submit a Cal Grant GPA Verification, first check with your high school/community college to see if they will do it for you. If not, you can go online and download a GPA Verification form from CSAC's Website, fill out the student section and take it to your high school/community college.
If you meet the income, eligibility, and GPA requirements, and CSAC confirms your eligibility, then you can apply your Cal Grant award towards your tuition cost. The best part is, you can fill out the FAFSA online.
You can receive a Cal Grant for up to four years or eight semesters. Your Cal Grant will be renewed automatically if you continue to meet the requirements (to include annual income and asset ceilings), maintain satisfactory academic progress, and have financial need. You will need to submit the FAFSA each year by the March 2 deadline in order for your Cal Grant to be renewed.
