Understanding Your Financial Aid Offer

Financial Aid Offer

Your financial aid offer is based on the information obtained from your admissions application and from the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).  If you have questions about any of the types of financial aid that you have been offered, visit our Financial Aid Programs page for more details about your particular aid type.  If you feel that the information that you have provided on the FAFSA (or LMU Institutional Need-Based Aid Application) does not reflect your family's current financial circumstances, visit our Appeals page for information of how to file an appeal for additional aid.

Corrections Made to FAFSA After Receiving Offer

In most cases, minor adjustments to information on the FAFSA such as updating from estimated income to actual, does not impact the financial aid offer. Therefore, LMU does not automatically provide a new financial aid offer upon receipt of a FAFSA correction made by the family.  For entering first-year students, we only review FAFSA corrections we receive for those students who submit their tuition deposit after the May 1st commitment deadline.

However, if a significant error was made on the FAFSA that significantly affects the Student Aid Index (SAI), you may submit a FAFSA Correction Form requesting our office to review your revised FAFSA and consider for repackaging.  During our review, additional documentation may be requested. There is no guarantee that reduction to the SAI will result in an increase to the aid offer.

There is no need to report corrections that do not affect the SAI such as updating the email address.

Revised Financial Aid Offer

During the course of the academic year, you may be deemed eligible for additional financial aid and/or aid from different sources that may replace current offers. Additionally, if LMU Financial Aid receives new information that affects your financial aid eligibility, your offers may change. In this case, you will receive an email from us notifying you that there has been a change to your offers that can be reviewed on your PROWL account.

PROWL

Once a student has submitted a tuition deposit, the student will have access to PROWL, LMU’s self-service tool.  On PROWL you can accept or decline financial aid awards, register for classes, check student account balances and much more. PROWL is also accessible through MYLMU under the 'System Logins' menu.   You are required to review the Terms and Conditions in PROWL before you can accept your aid.  Instructions for accepting your Terms and Conditions can be found on our PROWL page.
