How Cal Grants are Awarded at LMU

At LMU we award two different types of Cal Grants, Estimated and Confirmed.

  • If you apply for financial aid, and your FAFSA application indicates that you meet the basic requirements to receive a Cal Grant, an "Estimated Cal Grant" will be posted to your financial aid award. This award is not guaranteed until your cal grant eligibility has been confirmed by the California Student Aid Commission (CSAC). To ensure your award is confirmed in a timely manner, please make sure you are assigned to Loyola Marymount University’s roster on Webgrants for Students.

***Continuing students with an estimated Cal Grant: your Cal Grant may not be confirmed until June due to CSAC’s processing of renewal awards.

  • Once LMU receives the official list of Cal Grant eligible students on the Loyola Marymount University Cal Grant Roster from CSAC, LMU will confirm that you have met the requirements to receive a Cal Grant and convert your "Estimated Cal Grant" to a "Cal Grant A" or "Cal Grant B". For continuing students, your Cal Grant may not be confirmed until June due to CSAC’s processing of renewal awards. You will be notified that your award has been revised electronically.

If you are found to be ineligible, LMU will make every effort to reconsider you for additional funds.

If you receive a California Aid Report (CAR) from CSAC indicating that you may be eligible for a Cal Grant and we have not included an "Estimated Cal Grant" on your financial aid award, submit a copy of the CAR to LMU Financial Aid. LMU is required by CSAC to confirm your eligibility. If you are found eligible, federal and/or university funds initially awarded to you may be reduced or cancelled to ensure compliance with federal, state and university policies and you will be notified that your award has been revised.

  • LMU will automatically disburse your Cal Grant B Access Award to your student account at the start of each semester. Your Cal Grant B Access award will be applied towards the outstanding balance on your student account.

You have the right to request that your Cal Grant B Access Award be refunded to you instead of being applied to the balance on your student account. To request a refund for the amount of your Cal Grant B Access award, complete the Cal Grant B Access Refund Request Form located on the Forms section of the LMU Financial Aid Website. Please make sure to select the form for the proper aid year.

Please note that you will be responsible for any unpaid bills in your student account that your Cal Grant B Access award would otherwise have reduced or cleared. In addition, you cannot receive a refund for this amount until after your Cal Grant B Access award has been disbursed to your student account and no earlier than the first day of the semester.
