Spring 2010 Freshmen

Step 1: Complete the 2009-2010 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FASFA).

LMU requires any student who wishes to receive federal, state or institutional funded financial aid to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FASFA).

Students who complete the FAFSA and other application requirements by the October 15, 2009 priority processing deadline will receive their financial aid award by December 1, 2009.

Apply online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Applying online is safe and secure and will provide you with online edits to assist you in the completion of your FAFSA.  Both you and at least one parent must apply for a Personal Identification Number (PIN) to sign the FAFSA electronically. LMU’s school code is #001234.

  • The Department of Education encourages all students to apply electronically; however, you can obtain a paper FAFSA by calling the Federal Student Aid Information Center (FSAIC) toll-free at 800-4-FED-AID. If you complete a paper FAFSA, make sure your application is error-free, has your signature and the signature of at least one parent and is received by the federal processor prior to LMU’s October 15, 2009 priority processing deadline.  LMU’s school code is #001234.
STEP 2: Complete the 2009-2010 CSS/Financial Aid PROFILE

If you are interested in receiving LMU funded financial aid, you must complete the CSS PROFILE. The CSS PROFILE must be completed prior to LMU’s October 15, 2009 priority processing deadline.   If your or your parents' tax returns will not be completed by October 15, 2009, you can provide estimated income and tax information on the CSS PROFILE in order to meet the priority processing deadline. LMU’s school code is #4403.

The CSS PROFILE is a two-part process:

1. Register to receive a customized application at www.collegeboard.org/profile.
2. After you register, you can complete your customized PROFILE application online.

STEP 3: Submit your and your parents’ 2008 Federal Income Tax Returns

You are required to submit your and your parents’ 2008 federal tax returns to the Financial Aid Office. If you or your parents are not required to file a 2008 federal tax return, you must submit the non-filer forms which are available for download here.  The information collected in these returns/non-filing statements, will be used to verify the financial information provided on the FAFSA or CSS Profile.

STEP 4: Continue Communication with the Financial Aid Office!

Additional information may be required from you or your parents to complete your financial aid application throughout the year.   Typically, if additional documentation is needed, the Financial Aid Office will communicate with you via e-mail.   Prior to your making a commitment to attend LMU by submitting your admissions commitment deposit, the Financial Aid Office will use the e-mail address provided on your admission application to communicate with you.   Please be sure to provide an active e-mail account and check it regularly to keep up with important aid announcements and any additional document requests from LMU.

As an admissions applicant, you will also be provided with access to LMU's online system, PROWL.  Within PROWL you will be able to view the status of your aid application, your financial aid award and messages from the financial aid staff.  Once you have access to PROWL, you should check it regularly.
