Grants are gifts that do not need to be paid back. Eligibility for grants can be based on financial need, academic merit or a combination of both.

California residents can apply for Cal Grant A, B and Chafee Grants for foster youth.

Federal Grants
The Pell, Supplemental, Academic Competitiveness and SMART Grants are available from the Federal Government to assist students.
LMU Grants
LMU participates in all federal and state grant programs and provides our own grants based on academic merit and financial need to assist students.
LMU Athletic Grant-In-Aid
In accordance with NCAA regulations, Athletic Grant-In-Aid is designated for student-athletes to assit with college expenses. These awards may be full or partial grants regardless of the student-athlete's financial need.

Information for Foster Youth
To assist you with completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), review FAFSA Tips for Applicants in Unique Situations provided by the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (NASFAA).
If you are/were in foster care or another court ordered out of home placement between your 16th and 18th birthday, you may be eligible for up to $5,000 of additional grant assistance through the Chafee Grant. For more information on this grant and how to apply, visit https://www.chafee.csac.ca.gov/.
